Admin System

CCBill has a dedicated browser-based program for CCBill clients who desire to add Internet credit card or check billing capabilities to their site. The basic features of the program enable users to monitor, control, and report subscriber and affiliate transactions through CCBill's automated transaction database.

Affiliate

You may have one or more Affiliates who receive money based on the number of sales awarded to your account. You can sign up Affiliates and use them as traffic generators. Each Affiliate places links on their site to promote your products. In exchange, the Affiliate receives a commission for all valid transactions sent.

Affiliate System

This is fully integrated into CCBill and provides rapid, high volume and an extensive browser-based Admin. Percentage and base dollar amounts can be specified for dispensing bonus payouts to Affiliates. Real time statistics and reports can be generated from the program. A system is in place for tracking the number of website hits.

Alternate Script

A method that allows CCBill clients to add additional hidden elements to the Signup form. When information from the Signup form is sent, information such as username, Subscription ID number and password are sent to CCBill's system. CCBill also sends all information received, minus credit card information to the web location specified by the alternate script.

Approval

Occurs when a customer requests a new subscription and receives acceptance, approval, confirmation or validation of the request. This indicates a successful sign up of a customer subscription.

Authentication

The process is used to determine an individual's identity. Typically, users must identify themselves by entering a valid username and password.

Authentix

A third party authentication protection program by Flicks software. The software is used for CCBill clients that have their Website on a NT based server. The authentication software keeps usernames, passwords and files private. The Authentix Home Page is available at http://www.flicks.com/flicks/authx.htm.

Authorization

The process of identifying what a user can do. For example, after logging in to a system, a user may try to issue commands. Authorization determines whether the user is permitted to issue those commands. In some systems, authorization and authentication are merged into a single process.

Billing Period

Each billing period at CCBill is one week in length. A new period begins every Sunday, with the period ending the following Saturday. All transactions that occur within this period will be processed and payment will be out within seven days following the close of the period.

Bonus Level Tiering

CCBill clients may set up a tier system for disbursing payouts to affiliates. It is used to create a promotion style set up. Up to five break amounts can be set. Individual percentages or additional dollar amounts can be set for each break amount. Bonus incentives can be defined for Affiliates to receive higher percentages of payouts based on a break amount.

Case Sensitive

Able to determine the difference between uppercase and lowercase letters. For example, a case-sensitive system will recognize a literal match of uppercase and lowercase characters, such as \"UsErNaMe\" and \"uSeRnAmE\". Certain types of operating system respond to case sensitivity, while others do not.

Chargeback

Issued by the credit card firm and identifies the transaction as being invalid, non-collectible, fraudulent, disputed or by other reason revoked or reversed.

Client

Refers to a CCBill Webmaster Account or owner/ operator of a CCBill account.

Credit Card

This type of transaction is billed through a credit card signup form. For example, CCBill processes the following credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, Discover, JCB and others.

Customer

Refers to a CCBill client's customer, consumer, member or subscriber.

DAF

DAF (Dynamic Authentication Filter) is a third party authentication protection program. It is a complete package to handle Web user authentication on an NT/ IIS server.  The authentication software keeps usernames, passwords and files private. The DAF Home Page is available at http://www.dafweb.com/.

Decline/ Denial

Occurs when a customer attempts to sign up but is unable to do so because they are rejected, refused, prohibited or unauthorized. The reason this occurs may be due to CCBill's denial criteria and/ or your denial criteria.

DSN

This stands for Data Source Name. The DSN sets up the ODBC driver database connection. It includes the following information: database name, directory, database driver, UserID, password, and other things. Each DSN connects to a specific database and calls the information from its database.

Encryption

It converts data, forbidden to certain individuals, in a form that is difficult to decipher. The process encodes data using a convention called a ciphertext. Decryption decodes the original data into an understandable composition, reversing the encryption method.

Exceeded Usage Limits

Credit card shows excessive usage. Even if consumers still have credit left on a credit card, they may receive this message if they have used it for multiple Internet transactions in the same day.

Fraud Screen System

CCBill's database uses a \"pattern-matching\" algorithm for behavioral tendencies to determine if a charge is fraudulent. There are over 50 weighted variables to determine validity of credit cards.

Fraudulent Charge

Web merchants are generally held liable for fraudulent charges, even after the bank has authorized charges. For this reason, it is important to have access to a database that scrubs each transaction against a history of consumers who repeatedly make fraudulent charges.

FTP

Stands for File Transfer Protocol. FTP programs are used to transfer files from one computer to another. This differs from \"downloading\" files via a web browser because FTP can also \"upload\" files to a remote computer. An FTP client program is used to open a connection to the website domain, for example http://www.yourwebsite.com. The most common FTP program is CuteFTP, available from GlobalScape, Inc. This program may be downloaded and installed on any computer.

Holdback

CCBill deducts a holdback fee each month as a form of insurance against refunds or chargebacks. This amount is returned to you after 6 months.

Index Page

Customers will automatically find the Index page when they type the main part of your website URL in the browser's address bar. For example, http://www.yourwebsite.com. The page allows your customers to signup with a credit card, an on-line check, lookup account information, contact CCBill customer support and access your members area. The look and feel of the Index page can be customized.

Invalid Fields

The customer submitted invalid information, or a card number or card type was not supported.

Main Account Number

All CCBill clients receive an account number for tracking purposes. The standard format is 9xxxxx, where 9xxxxx is the main account. The main account is a 6-digit number. For example, \"900000\".

Members Area

A secure area available only to individuals who have enrolled to become users of the website. The registration process is done through a Signup form. Access to the member's area is controlled by a login page. Users receive access to the area through a username and password. The user information is protected. CCBill clients may increase the apparent appeal of the site by offering incentives to those who become members.

Negative Database

Every time a transaction is billed through CCBill the system checks for fraud. If a particular name and a particular credit card number come up together multiple times over an extended time period, it is placed into the negative database for blocking future sales.

ODBC

Open DataBase Connectivity is an established database connection process designed by Microsoft. Its purpose is to guarantee that any application may utilize the data from any type of database management system.

On-line Check

CCBill processes on-line checks for subscription billing. These transactions are deducted electronically from the customer's checking account. A customer needs a routing number and a checking account number to be billed. You must use a check signup form for billing the customer.

Operating System

The main control program of a server that schedules tasks, manages storage, and handles communication with peripherals. An operating system presents a basic user interface when no applications are open, and all applications must communicate with the operating system. The operating system oversees the security of the server.

Pass-through

This is optional. The setup must be a pass-through installation if using any of the following: 1) UNIX server that cannot run CGI scripts, 2) NT server without third party software, 3) .htaccess. Members are authenticated through CCBill and then passed through to a URL on your site. CCBill recommends that you rename the \"members\" area every two days. Otherwise, subscribers may bookmark and access areas because there is no password protection.

Password

A series of alpha and numeric characters used for authentication of user access to a program, file or directory. This is case sensitive and must be unique. CCBill keeps this information confidential.

Prefill

This option allows you to use previously entered information, so the subscriber does not have to re-enter the data. Information can be prefilled such as username, password, address, telephone, etc., and is stored in CCBill's server cache memory, temporarily.

Processing Script

A recurring sale that has been rebilled at least one time. CCBill will keep rebilling the subscriber until the account is canceled, or the card is declined, etc.

Recurring Billing

An initial sale that is set to rebill after a specified length of time. This rebills the subscription on an iterative basis. This may include an initial price and initial period. The period of the subscription is in 30, 60, 90, 180 or 365 day increments.

Refund

A transaction that has been refunded. A refund of subscription at the request of the subscriber through E-mail or phone. CCBill clients can issue refunds as well. A refunded check is very similar to a credit card refund, except the refund is for an on-line check.

Returned Check

An on-line check returned because the subscriber had insufficient funds to cover the transaction.

Routing Number

A routing number is used for billing the bank account paying by check. The bank routing number and account number are printed at the bottom of every check. The standard format is a 9-digit number (example: 101010101).

CCBill's automated transaction process provides real-time credit card processing and electronic checking services. All on-line transactions at CCBill are handled with industry-standard 128-bit SSL encryption. Any information that is transferred across the Internet to or from CCBill's server is DES encrypted.

Single Billing

A transaction that is charged only once (non-recurring). This bills the subscription one time for a specific period of time.

Subaccount Number

After a merchant signs up for website billing, they may open one or more sub-accounts. The sub-account is a 4-digit number. The standard format is: xxxx. For example, \"0002\". The sub-account is added to the end of the main account. For example: 900000-0000. CCBill Clients setting up sub-accounts utilize the additional 4-digits.

Subscriber Account

Information about the subscriber is stored in CCBill's database such as name, password, username, credit card number, address, E-mail, etc. This information is used to track the subscriber's access time and on-line location for billing purposes.

Subscription ID

A 10-digit number, which is used for billing purposes of the customer's account. CCBill credit card subscription numbers begin with \"1\", test sign ups begin with a \"2\" and on-line check subscription numbers begin with \"6\".

SWIFT Number

The Society for Worldwide Financial Telecommunications is an international message switching service where funds are transferred by requesting debits and credits to be executed between the bank accounts of foreign correspondents. In recurring billing, you may have a tryout period, which acts as an introductory offer. The subscription is rebilled after the tryout period.

Username

A unique name, consisting of alpha and numeric characters, used to gain access to a program, file or directory. This is case sensitive and must be unique. CCBill keeps this information confidential.
